THE Bulawayo Athletics Board (Bab) will stage its Cadets, Youth, Junior and Senior Track and Field Championships at White City Stadium on July 18, with athletes from across the city expected to compete.
The championships will provide a platform for athletes in different age categories to test themselves across a wide range of track and field events as they continue preparing for the remainder of the athletics season.
The board has invited schools, clubs and individual athletes to take part in the one-day competition, which will feature sprint, middle and long-distance races as well as field events.
Track events on the programme include the 100 metres, 100m hurdles, 110m hurdles, 200 metres, 400m hurdles, 800 metres, 5 000 metres, 10 000 metres and the relay races.
Field events will include the high jump, javelin, shot put and discus throw.
Entry fees have been set at US$3 per athlete, while relay teams will pay US$6.
The championships are expected to attract some of Bulawayo’s top emerging athletes, with the event also serving as an opportunity for competitors to improve their performances and stake claims for selection to future provincial and national competitions.
Athletes and clubs interested in participating have been encouraged to register in time.
