IN their bid to qualify for the next edition of the National Premier League (NPL), Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC) have stepped up their preparations with intense training as they aim to see off a Lupinyu challenge.

BAC are scheduled for a play-off match against Lupinyu from Victoria Falls on Sunday at BAC.

As part of their preparations, the team had a practice match on Wednesday against a mixed side of other local players.

Speaking to Zimpapers Sports, BAC director of cricket, Senyo Nyakutse said all is in place for Sunday’s match and preparations have been going on well.

He added that they are not under any pressure and will take the game as it comes and give it their all. Nyakutse said discipline on the field will take them far.

“The preparations for this game are going on well. We had a practice game on Wednesday with a Select side and we did really well against a pretty strong team. We have no pressure at all, but it’s an important game that we must win,” he said.

BAC were third in the Bulawayo Metropolitan Cricket Association (BMCA) First League (50-overs) behind table toppers Amakhosi Cricket Club and Queens Sports Club.

They had 44 points from 12 matches (six wins, four defeats and two no results).

Nyakutse believes hunting on familiar ground will be a big boost for them and encouraged local cricket enthusiasts to come through and enjoy a good game of One Day cricket between two competitive sides.

“Playing at home is definitely a bonus as we will be in an environment that we are more comfortable with.

It should be a fun and exciting game of cricket. It is a 50-over game, so it should last the day, so whichever way, we have to give it our best and display high quality on the field,” he said.

The match is scheduled to start at 9:30am and is free of charge.
