AFTER successfully conducting a number of competitions this month, Bulawayo Athletics Board are now shifting their focus to the track as field events slated for 24 November at White City Stadium.
The local athletics body has been working around the clock recently, overseeing a number of competitions among them the annual NRZ Trail Half Marathon race as well as the Hope Fountain 30km road race. According to Bab chairman Manuel Mpofu, registration for the events is already in full swing.
“Everything is now set for the track and field event, athletes can now go ahead with registration. Events to look out for are mostly track and field which will be held on that day to enable participants to gauge how far they have gone in preparation for future events,” said Mpofu.
Participants will battle in track events from 100m up to 1 500m, high jump, long jump among other track and field competitions.
Meanwhile, the Cross Country open event that was scheduled for 17 November at the same venue has been pushed over to next year after Bab felt that the tight programme could be taxing for athletes, particularly after hosting a number of medium to long events in one calendar month according the Mpofu.
During the recently held NRZ Trail Half Marathon race Elijah Mabhunu and Miriam Sibanda were crowned champions of the second edition of the men’s and women’s categories respectively. Mabhunu takes over the button from Tendai Zimuto, a colleague from a sister organisation ZNA who won the event last year.
