THE Bulawayo provincial baseball team is earnestly preparing for the interprovincial Southern conference league match against the Midlands Province in Gweru.
The match will be played in October.
“We already have the team in place so it’s more of fine tunning them so that we get the best results possible,” said Bulawayo province head coach Elton Mudzingwa.
The provincial league is divided into two conferences and Bulawayo which is in the Southern conference competes against Midlands and Masvingo.
Team Bulawayo is upping their preparation by playing practice matches against each other as they have two men’s team at their disposal. In order to keep their ladies’ team, fit and sharp for any challenge, they are made to play against the men’s junior side.
The team is not just eying a win in their conference league fixture but also hoping to do well in all their fixtures so as to get a better seeding in the national provincial games that will be hosted in Bulawayo.
“The conference league prepares us for the national provincial games so in this regard the results and log standing come with the benefit of seeding at the December Interprovincial games that we as Bulawayo we will be hosting,” said Mudzingwa.
This will be the team’ second fixture of the year in the conference league after they lost their match against Masvingo.
Not only is the Bulawayo province trying to prepare for Gweru and the national games, they are also trying to spread the sport across schools in the province as a way of trying to grow the game and make it popular.
“Third term we are in line to rolling out a development plan for primary schools in the province,” Mudzingwa said.
