Bulawayo Chiefs fail to maintain village

Sports Reporter

PERHAPS as an indicator of the terrible financial state of affairs at Bulawayo Chiefs Football Club, Amakhosi Amahle are failing to maintain their newly acquired Bulawayo Chiefs Village.

Long grass and shrubs at the entrance of the premises, could be a clear sign of demise in what was once touted as the “state-of-the-art” facility under construction.
It is well known that Amakhosi Amahle are reeling in financial turbulence. Players have not been paid since June last year and some are already abandoning the once flashy team, looking for greener pastures at well-resourced clubs in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

The exit is set to be worst as the off season market progresses.
Latest revelations of the eyesore bushy growth at the Bulawayo Chiefs, formerly known as Callies Sports Club then AmaZulu Sports Club, is enough to sound alarm at the troubled club.

A visit to the facility at the weekend showed the extent of neglect, much to the chagrin of a passersby. The green growth has overlapped the “cool” Bulawayo Chiefs signage. Are the Twitter Kings on the low?
The most depressing part of Bulawayo Chief’s financial struggles is seeing the Chiefs Village in a state of being deserted.

One only hopes their present challenges will not affect their dream for Chiefs Village as the club had built a lot of excitement on Twitter about the place.
Chiefs plan to turn their village into a multi-purpose facility, with part of the site plan including “a mini-hotel” where the teams will camp.

The lodgings will also accommodate players from outside Bulawayo.
Septic tanks behind the main field have forced Chiefs to abandon its desire of setting up a training ground and instead opt to use the bulk of that space to build a mini-hotel as well as Five-A-Side, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts.

Unlike in the past when Bulawayo City Council leased out the place for a long period, the local authority has decided on five-year leases after noting that tenants were not developing the facility and at times even accrued huge bills.
Chiefs are not deterred by the short lease, as they are confident that the investment they will pump into the project will get them an extension.

One hopes that they will survive long enough to see that dream come to fruition with fears that they might go the way of AmaZulu who are now defunct after displaying the same flamboyance as Amakhosi Amahle, only that back then there was no Twitter where they could show off.
