Bulawayo Chiefs shock FC Platinum at Mandava

FC PLATINUM missed an opportunity to go on top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League log when they suffered a shock 1-0 loss to Bulawayo Chiefs at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane yesterday.

The two times in a row Zimbabwean champions needed a win to go top of the log but were stunned by the relegation evading Chiefs. Desire Shumbanhete scored the only goal of the match in the 70th minute when he connected a Arthur Musiyiwa pass to fire the ball beyond Petros Mhari’s reach.

Had FC Platinum won, they would have overtaken log leaders Caps United who are only in action away to TelOne at Ascot Stadium in Gweru this afternoon. Instead, Makepekepe remain on top of the log with 51 points while Pure Platinum Play are second with 49. Caps United can stretch their lead further at the top of the log should they overcome Rahman Gumbo’s TelOne in Gweru.

For Amakhosi Amahle, the win saw them move to 34 points but they still remain 13th on the log. It was the second win in a row for the Thulani Sibanda coached Chiefs who defeated Mushowani Stars 3-1 at Luveve Stadium last Wednesday. They have won five of their last nine encounters, drawn two and tasted defeat twice.
