WARD 26 councillor Mpumelelo Moyo has been found guilty of demanding a US$20 000 bribe to facilitate the approval of a 5.6-hectare piece of land in Cowdray Park.
Bulawayo Provincial Magistrate Richard Ramaboea delivered the verdict, convicting Moyo on bribery charges after a heated trial.
According to court records, Moyo solicited the hefty bribe from Labenmon Investments in exchange for pushing through the land deal.
His lawyer, Prince Butshe of Butshe and Associates, confirmed that sentencing will be handed down at a later date.
The ruling has sparked debate among residents, with many calling for stricter measures to fight corruption in land deals.
