On Monday, the City of Kings and Queens is set to come alive with pride and celebration as residents mark Bulawayo Day, a special occasion observed on June 1 that honours the city’s rich history, vibrant culture, and strong civic identity.
As part of the festivities, a belated Bulawayo Day celebration is scheduled for tomorrow in the city centre, where a colourful carnival parade will take centre stage. Residents can expect a vibrant showcase of traditional attire, pulsating music, and dynamic dance routines, all reflecting the multicultural spirit that defines Bulawayo.
The festivities will culminate in a concert at the Large City Hall, with an impressive line-up of performers including cultural ensemble Simunye Simunye, Jabulani Arts, renowned spoken word artist Maluka Sgoda, soulful crooner MJ Sings, versatile performer George Phahlane, and charismatic host MC Cde Phil.
In addition, art lovers can look forward to a pop-up exhibition at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe (Bulawayo), where visual artists will showcase creative works that reflect the city’s heritage and future aspirations.
Meanwhile, the Bulawayo Arts Festival continues in full swing with a range of activities across the city. From live music and dance shows to exhibitions and creative dialogues, the festival is a celebration of Bulawayo’s dynamic arts and culture scene.
Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to take part in the festivities and show their support for the city’s creative industries.
