A potential disaster was averted in Bulawayo on Friday night after the Bulawayo Fire Brigade swiftly responded to a fire outbreak at the popular takeaway outlet, Slice Pizzeria, located along Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Street.

Firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving reports of smoke coming from the eatery’s kitchen area.

The emergency team managed to quickly contain the blaze before it could spread to other parts of the building or neighbouring businesses.

Bulawayo Chief Fire Officer Mr Mhlangano Moyo confirmed the incident, saying the fire originated from the restaurant’s chip fryer system.

“The team managed to contain the fire. It was fire in the chimney ducting of a chip fryer. The chip fryers have that sort, as time goes that sort catches fire if not properly maintained. The situation is under control more details to follow,” he said.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage at the premises.

Authorities are expected to conduct further assessments to determine the extent of the damage and ensure safety at the outlet.
