KUDA Mushamba from Bulawayo is the only candidate who passed the Fifa agents’ examination written last week, joining six others accredited last year by the Zifa Normalisation Committee.
The country previously only had six approved agents, who formed an association chaired by Gibson Mahachi, with Lindela Tshuma as secretary-general. The members are Denford Mutashu, Garikayi Gilbert Sengwe, George Deda and Adonis Ndaimana Sithole.
Despite this, there are still several unlicenced player representatives operating illegally and fleecing players by demanding large kickbacks.
Mushamba is excited to join the elite class of accredited agents and wants to help young players reach their full potential by using his background as a qualified accountant.
“In all honesty, l have been longing for this. I am a football person who failed to play professionally, but then thought, well let me do something for football and l felt this can be my contribution to the beautiful game, so l decided to take this path,” said Mushamba.
Mushamba said he wants to ensure the country’s next big names reach their full potential.”I have been studying football trends, looking at where we are and where we are going and noticed that football has been commercialised and l thought l should be part of the football business. Given that l like to interact with coaches and players a lot, l thought this was the way to go.
I have big dreams for this because l want to see players and coaches in our country reaching their full potential.”To become a licensed Fifa agent, one must first officially register and pay the licensing fee through the Fifa Agents Platform.Registering via the Fifa Agent Platform does not automatically register one with the national association.
“In the majority of footballing countries, you must also register locally and in some cases, make a separate payment to the national association to receive membership from them,” reads a section on agents, on the Fifa website. The initiative to increase the number of registered agents is aimed at reducing incidents of players falling prey to unlicenced agents. — @innocentskizoe.
