Bulawayo gets ready for national track event

ATHLETICS clubs in the country will have an opportunity to compete for gold in the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (Naaz) Inter-Club Track and Field Championships to be held in the city next month.

Preparations are underway with the Bulawayo Athletics Board (Bab) announcing they are confident of organising and hosting a top notch event on March 2 at White City Stadium. The championships present athletics clubs a platform to check their readiness for other races and events that fall

in the year. Naaz introduced the competition in a bid to strengthen athletics development structures within clubs.

Athletes will compete in the 100m, 100m hurdles, 110m hurdles, 200m, 400m, 400m hurdles, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 5000m, 4 x 100m relay and the 4 x 400m relay.

There will also be a contest for the Zimbabwe International Exhibition CocaCola Four-Minute-Mile Challenge, long jump, triple jump, high jump, javelin, shot-put and discus throwing.

Presenting an outline of their preparation, Bab chairperson Watson Madenyika said they had started making inroads to what promises to be one of local athletics’ biggest events. “We are thankful to our mother body, the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe for once again giving us the opportunity to host the inter-clubs’ championships. We take this as an affirmation of trust that we can organise a successful event and we promise to deliver,” said Madanyika. – @NkosieLegend.
