THE City of Bulawayo has begun preparing Local Development Plans (LDPs) 6, 14 and 21 and is inviting residents and stakeholders to contribute to the planning process through a consultative meeting scheduled for next week.

In a notice, Town Clerk Mr Christopher Dube said the Local Development Plans are designed to establish detailed development control policies for the identified study areas, unlock land for various uses and promote sustainable urban development.

“In accordance with the requirements of the Regional, Town and Country Planning Act (Chapter 29:12, Revised Edition 1996), Section 18(1), and the Regional, Town and Country Planning (Master and Local Plans) Regulations, 1977, the city will conduct a stakeholder engagement meeting on the presentation of the Written Statement for Local Development Plan 14 and the Report of Study for Local Development Plans 6 and 21,” read the notice.

According to the city, the LDP 6 study area is located on the western side of Bulawayo and covers Nketa, Emganwini, Tshabalala, Nkulumane and Sizinda.

The LDP 14 study area covers the southern and south-eastern parts of the city, including Waterford, Burnside, Manningdale, Fortunesgate, Riverside, Whitestone, Mqabuko Heights, Willsgrove, Lochview, Hillside, Matsheumhlope, Sunninghill, part of Douglasdale, Buena Vista and Fourwinds.

The LDP 21 study area encompasses the northern section of the Bulawayo central business district and includes Northend, Paddonhurst, Tegela, Rowena, Queens Park East, Queens Park West, Highmount, Sauerstown and State House.

The local authority has invited residents, property owners and other stakeholders to attend the consultative meeting, which will be held at 10:30am next Thursday at the Small City Hall.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for participants to share views and contribute to the preparation of the development plans, which are expected to guide future land use and sustainable growth in the affected areas.
