BULAWAYO’S 10 junior footballers have settled in well in Germany, with morale high following their safe arrival in Munich and a successful first training session ahead of the Bayern Munich Youth Cup.

Football.Enterprises Zimbabwe director Wilbert Sibanda said the youngsters were excited about the opportunity to represent Bulawayo at the international Under-16 tournament.

“The boys travelled well and arrived safely in Munich. They are settling in well. Morale is high, and the boys are excited about the opportunity. They have had their first training session, which went well,” said Sibanda.

The squad comprises players from various junior football clubs in Bulawayo, reflecting the depth of talent emerging from the city’s grassroots football structures.

Highlanders assistant coach Mkhokheli Dube and Gwanda Pirates coach Johannes Ngodzo are accompanying the players with Vusa Sibanda serving as team manager.

The Bayern Munich Youth Cup is a global Under-16 tournament organised by the Bundesliga giants since 2012. It brings together young footballers from different countries, combining international competition with talent identification, coaching and cultural exchange.

According to the club, more than 100 000 youngsters from over 15 countries have participated in the tournament over the years, with 20 former participants going on to sign professional contracts or represent their national teams.

For the Bulawayo youngsters, the tournament presents an opportunity to test themselves against international opposition, gain valuable competitive experience and develop their skills in a different football environment.
