A 39-YEAR-OLD man from Pumula North suburb has appeared in court facing charges of armed robbery, after allegedly attacking a man with two accomplices who are still on the run and robbing him of US$140 at knifepoint.
Thandolwenkosi Ncube appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Archie Wochiwunga and was remanded in custody to August 28.
Prosecuting, Mr Tafara Dzimbanhete told the court that the incident happened in July.
At around 8.30PM, the complainant, Thabisani Maphosa (24), was walking along a bushy pathway between Pumula North and Magwegwe West suburbs when Ncube and two accomplices confronted him.
The trio, armed with a machete and an okapi knife, allegedly demanded money from Maphosa. They then tore the pocket of his trousers and took his wallet, which contained US$140.
The complainant screamed for help and was assisted by a friend, who helped apprehend Ncube before handing him over to Pumula Police Station. The stolen money was not recovered.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the other two suspects, who remain at large.
