A 29-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man has appeared in court on allegations of assaulting his estranged wife on two occasions and damaging her property after accusing her of engaging in relationships with other men.

Brian Gama, of Mpopoma suburb, appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube facing two counts of physical abuse and one count of malicious damage to property.
He pleaded guilty to the charges and was remanded to today for sentencing.

Prosecutor Ms Catherine Kuzu told the court that the first incident occurred on July 15 at about 8pm when Gama allegedly went to the complainant, Nanzelele Ndlovu’s residence and accused her of having affairs with other men.

The court heard that an argument ensued, during which Gama allegedly assaulted Ndlovu.
“During the misunderstanding, Gama punched Ndlovu several times on the face and head and further struck Ndlovu with a cupboard drawer and a cooking stick all over the body,” said Ms Kuzu.
Following the assault, Gama allegedly took Ndlovu’s Samsung tablet and smashed it on the ground, causing damage.

The court further heard that on August 16 at around 6pm, Gama returned to Ndlovu’s home and again accused her of having an affair.

The State alleged that he became violent, threatened to kill her and slapped her once on the left cheek before she managed to escape.

In mitigation, Gama told the court that Ndlovu was his wife and that he was still in love with her.
He said he became angry after seeing her with another man, which led to the assaults.
