A GWANDA man has been fined US$100 after making a false police report claiming that four unknown men had robbed him of his cellphone and US$330.

Arnold Siziba of Matshetsheni village was convicted on his own plea of guilty to supplying false information to a police officer by Bulawayo magistrate Mr Golden Mahamba.
Siziba was sentenced to an additional three months in prison, wholly suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar offence during that period.

Prosecuting, Mr Arnold Mudekunye told the court that on August 16 at around 10AM, Siziba went to Insuza Police Station and reported that four unknown men had robbed him of an Itel C8 cellphone and US$330.

“Police officers attended the scene and discovered that the accused had made a false report, leading to his arrest,” said Mr Mudekunye.
