A 31-year-old man from Bulawayo appeared in court on Wednesday, accused of threatening to stab his neighbour with a knife after the neighbour requested the return of his cellphone.

The phone had been given to the accused by the complainant to make a call.

The accused, Qinisela Mpofu of Pelandaba suburb, who is facing assault charges, was granted US$50 bail by magistrate Mr Archie Wochiwunga, who remanded the matter to 14 August 2025.

Prosecuting, Mr Tafara Dzimbanhete, said the incident happened on 21 July 2025 at around 7.30pm, stating that Clive Sibanda (34), the complainant and Mpofu were not related but neighbours.

On that day, Mpofu, who was in the company of three co-accused persons who are still at large, approached Sibanda and asked for his cellphone, which was given to him.

Mpofu allegedly wanted to make a phone call using Sibanda’s cellphone, a Villion V40 black in colour.

Mpofu and his co-accused persons produced okapi knives and threatened to stab him.
