MORE than $6 000 was raised for the Bulawayo Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund at a dinner hosted by a local hotel and the Inter-Services Cheer Fund.
The dinner hoped to raise at least $8 000, but managed to get $2 000 less from ticket sales and auctioning of goods sourced by the Inter-services Cheer Fund.
This year’s Christmas Cheer Fund, with no set target figure, is threatened by the drought and general economic hardships being experienced by most residents. – Ziana.

- The mayor’s cheer fund is a way in which mayors in different cities raise funds to support the less privileged in their communities especially during the festive season.
- Universally, the Christmas season is known as a time for giving without expecting something in return.
- It is also seen as a time to share the little that people have with those who do not have and spreading the Christmas spirit and cheer and bringing smiles to everyone as people celebrate the birth of the Messiah, Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
- As we prepare to celebrate this year’s Christmas, people should introspect and strive to bring joy not only to friends and relatives but to total strangers because the Lord said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
