Bulawayo Metropolitan Karate Association to hold first provincial tournament

THE Bulawayo Metropolitan Karate Association is set to host its first provincial tournament since its rebranding two years ago.

The venue of the tournament will be at Drill Hall this Saturday.

The tournament is expected to attract seasoned and experienced karatekas within the province.

Young karatekas as young as five years of age will be part of proceedings.

Karatekas expected to dominate the event include Mufaro Chinzvende, Peniel Alph Dube, Shanyne Manyatela, Natalie Mpofu, Karabo Mabusa, Bongeka Mguni, Cecil Jones, Venus Mariwande and Ashly Nguruve.

Clubs expected to field athletes include Shokokai Karate Academy, Shityo Riyu, JSKA, Dragons Sankukai, KSI and Karate Nomichi.

BMKA public relations officer, Greatmans Sibanda said: “All is set for the event. We are more than ready to host the tournament and it’s going to be a great day for the province because in every tournament new champions are born.

“This will give the province an opportunity to come up with a provincial team. Walter Zimunya the financial director of Radar Properties trading as Macdonald Bricks will grace the occasion, Lonely Nyati the managing director will be the guest of honour.

“Radar industries have previously sponsored our tournaments and recently donated a tatami (fighting mat) worth $2000 to the provincial association. Their support is greatly appreciated. The Zimbabwe National karate Federation president Sensei Joe Rugwete will also grace the event.”
