THE Bulawayo Province Netball League cancelled all the matches that were set to be played over the weekend to pave way for the Zimbabwe National Youth Games that started in the city yesterday. All matches were supposed to be played on Saturday but were called off as most of the players are representing Bulawayo province at the Youth Games.
Free Stars and Mighty Queens players dominate the Bulawayo team, with the two teams contributing total of seven players.
Mighty Queens’ player-coach Connie Bhuka is also the coach for the Bulawayo netball team while Lisa Mangena of Freestars is the manager of the team.
Bulawayo Province Netball League general manager Precious Mudenge said they decided to cancel the matches so that they won’t disadvantage the teams with players and officials taking part at the Games.
“There were no games played over the weekend because some of the players and coaches are taking part at the Youth Games, so we decided to postpone the matches,” said Mudenge.
Mudenge also expressed support for the team and hopes they will make the province proud.
“We hope after all the support we have given them, they will do well and make us proud,” said Mudenge.
This coming weekend’s fixtures are expected to be on ice again as the Zimbabwe National Youth Games ends on Saturday.
Bulawayo netball team is in Pool A along with Manicaland, Mashonaland West, Matabeleland South and Matabeleland North.
All netball matches will be played at White City Courts.
