TWO Bulawayo men have been arrested after they were found in possession of 11 kilogrammes of dagga with a street value of $11,000, stashed under a bed.
Acting on a tip-off, police raided a house in Pumula East on Thursday last week and found the illegal drug.
Keith Moyo, 18, of Pumula East suburb pleaded guilty to possession of the drug while Sydney Ndlovu, 40, of Gwabalanda pleaded not guilty when they appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Marylene Mtshina.
They were remanded out of custody to June 12 on $100 bail. Mtshina ordered the duo to reside at their given addresses until finalisation of the case.
“You’re to reside at the addresses on the court records and don’t interfere with state witnesses until the matter has been finalised. You will also report at your nearest police stations thrice every week,” she said.
Prosecuting, Danmore Kasenza said on May 4 this year, police officers armed with information searched Moyo’s house and found 11kgs of dagga hidden under his bed. “Upon his arrest Moyo indicated that the 11kgs of dagga belonged to Ndlovu,” Kasenza told the court.
On June 5, the court heard, Ndlovu was arrested at the Corner of Jason Moyo and 8th Avenue and was taken to CID drugs sections at CABS Building, where Moyo positively identified him as the owner of the dagga.
Moyo changed his initial statement in court and said the dagga belonged to his sister’s boyfriend.
“Your worship, the dagga doesn’t belong to me. It was left by my sister who went to South Africa in January. The dagga belongs to my sister’s boyfriend,” said Moyo.
