Bulawayo prophet unveils ‘spiritual mat’

CHURCH stories and healing methods are becoming more and more extreme and bizarre. When it comes to pastors and prophets doing the craziest things in the name of healing, people have heard and seen it all.

While some churches offer anointing oil, or resort to anointed handkerchiefs for alleged miracles, a Bulawayo prophet has sparked fresh controversy with his unorthodox healing method of distributing “anointed” or “spiritual” mats with alleged healing powers.

The prophet, Mduduzi Dube, known as Prophet Black Elisha, is also no stranger to controversy as he once took the city by storm following his use of a “spiritual padlock or spear” to heal congregants.

He recently unveiled a “spiritual mat” believed to possess healing powers and the ability to combat criminals and ward off evil spells in relationships. Businesspeople are reportedly flocking to him, hoping a good night’s sleep on the enchanted mat would bring financial breakthroughs.

Families are also seeking protection from bad luck and ill-health. But whispers arose and debate swirled on social media platforms: Is this genuine faith or a ploy to exploit the vulnerable?

“Finally, a solution to all my problems! I’m getting a mat to ward off evil spirits and boost my business,” said Memory Siziba.

Another supporter, who wished to remain anonymous, declared, “It’s about faith. If you believe it can work. I’m willing to try anything to heal my marriage.”

However, not everyone embraced the idea. Akim Moyo sharply criticised the method, calling it “outrageous”.

“Preying on people’s fears and vulnerabilities. It’s exploitation, not faith,” he said.

Martha, a concerned believer, expressed a different kind of doubt. “Even if it works, is this the right way to practice religion? It feels disrespectful,” she said.

Even among believers, there was also some hesitation. “It’s an interesting idea, but I need to see some proof before I jump on board,” said a cautiously curious follower.

Following the debate B-Metro caught up with Black Elisha, who defended and revealed the secret behind his unorthodox “spiritual mat” and his venture into this uncharted territory. He said his latest offering — the “spiritual mat” was a problem solver.

“The spiritual mat is undoubtedly the problem solver of choice for those suffering from illnesses related to spiritual attacks. It can also cure any curses you believe have been haunting you for years. For businesspeople, the mat brings financial breakthroughs and for troubled marriages, it wards off evil spirits. The mat works in different ways. You can either sleep on it or step on it. Even those who want to protect their properties from thieves can use it by placing it on their doorsteps. Once a thief steps on it, they will be immobilised. Likewise, visitors with evil intentions will be exposed upon entering your house. Another advantage is that you can keep it in your car for protection,” explained Black Elisha.

He defended his unorthodox healing method by citing one of the most astonishing miracles in the Bible, found in Acts 19:11-12.

“And God was doing extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, so that even handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched his skin were carried away to the sick, and their diseases left them, and the evil spirits came out of them.”

He maintained that spiritual mat was real and there were several testimonies from people who claimed to have received anything they desired like business success and a good life through its use.
