DYNAMIC rapper and producer Stones Moyo, celebrated for his innovative fusion of genres, has carved a niche for himself in the Bulawayo music scene, captivating audiences with his boundary-pushing creations.

Following the success of his 2019 EP “Thinking About You”, which many fans regard as an album, Moyo has now unveiled his highly anticipated debut album, “The Build Up Session.”

Moyo told Chronicle Showbiz that the title “The Build Up Session” reflects Moyo’s ambition to create something substantial for his artistic journey.

“It was inspired by my desire to build something solid. The title suggests a continuation, emphasising growth, responsibility, and the importance of acknowledging the progress made—both the successes and missteps,” he explained.

This theme resonates throughout the album, offering listeners an intimate glimpse into Moyo’s personal evolution.

Musically, the album marks a departure from his earlier work.

“While it retains the sonic experimentation of ‘Thinking About You’, it is more aggressive and vulnerable,” Moyo noted.

The creative process was a challenging yet rewarding journey, filled with lessons that have shaped his artistry.

Moyo’s collaborations are a testament to his versatility and openness as an artiste.

He has worked with a diverse range of talents, including Dee Moses, Choonkie Malete, Vuyo Brown, Mthue Black, Da_Kudu, M.U.S.E, and Just Percy.

“I can’t choose one collaboration over another. Each artiste brought something unique to the table, contributing to the overall impact of the project,” he noted.

His approach to collaboration is rooted in the energy that each artiste brings.

“It’s all about allowing each other the space to exist and create freely,” he explained, emphasising the importance of synergy in musical partnerships.

Moyo’s music is distinguished by its genre-blending nature.

“I never shy away from experimenting. It’s often trial and error until something resonates deeply,” he said.

His latest offering includes the title track, “For Real” and “Umdala uMoyo” among other tracks.

Influenced by a rich tapestry of genres—including Afrobeat, Pop, Kwaito, Amapiano, Gospel, and Electronic music—he creates a sound that is uniquely his own.

As a self-described digital entrepreneur, Moyo is keenly aware of the evolving music landscape.

“I’ve been experimenting with strategies like allowing people to pay what they want for my music,” he shared.

“I also plan to release acapella versions, encouraging fans to remix and distribute them.”

Moyo is committed to staying ahead of digital trends, planning to shoot videos for his latest project and already having three additional projects in the pipeline for 2025.

“I want to build something for my legacy—something that transcends time and trends,” he stated.

Looking ahead, Moyo hopes to create inspiring, educational, and entertaining music that resonates across genres.

“If I can build a loyal fan base and produce timeless music, I’ll be more than content,” he said.

Moyo wants to be known as an innovator and authentic musician.
