Bulawayo rolls out street CCTV Installation

IN a bid to enhance security and crime prevention, the city of Bulawayo, in partnership with Tendy Three Investments, has embarked on a major project to install street Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras.

The initiative aims to monitor and record activities in public spaces, improving safety and reducing crime rates.

The new CCTV cameras are being installed in phases the installation started last Sunday with priority given to high-traffic areas, crime hotspots, and strategic locations across the city.

“This initiative is in line with the parking management contract with Tendy Three Investments Parking Solutions, which has started the process on various roads in the city,” said Mrs Nesisa Mpofu, the local authority’s cooperate communications manager.

Mrs Mpofu also highlighted that the CCTV cameras are equipped with advanced features, including speed monitoring and traffic light violation detection.

Residents and business owners have welcomed the initiative, citing concerns about rising crime rates in the city.

“This is a great move by the council; it will help deter criminals and make us feel safer,” said Mr Tapfuma Machaya, a student living in the CBD flats.

The installation of street CCTV will benefit not only residents living in the CBD but also motorists, as it will monitor their movements and improve city operations.
