BULAWAYO City Council (BCC) is seeking to borrow over US$13 million to finance key capital projects, including water and sanitation infrastructure, roads and solar energy initiatives.
In a public notice, Town Clerk Mr Christopher Dube said the local authority intended to raise US$13 162 358, or its equivalent of ZiG335 640 129, subject to approval by Local Government and Public Works Minister.
The proposed funds will be channelled towards a range of priority projects, including ICT equipment and accessories (US$3 034 076), water infrastructure (US$2 480 000), sanitation infrastructure (US$2 050 000), roads (US$2 005 000), equipment and vehicles (US$2 653 282), buildings (US$340 000) and solar projects (US$600 000).
“Notice is hereby given in terms of Section 290 of the Urban Councils Act … that, subject to the consent of the Minister of Local Government and Public Works, the City of Bulawayo is proposing to borrow US$13 162 358 or its equivalent of ZiG335 640 129 to finance various capital projects,” reads part of the notice.
Residents and stakeholders have been invited to inspect detailed information on the proposed projects at the Finance Director’s office on the 12th Floor, Tower Block, Leopold Takawira Avenue, during normal working hours.
Mr Dube said any ratepayer or voter wishing to object to the borrowing plan must submit written objections to the Town Clerk’s office or deliver them to City Hall not later than July 13, 2026.
