Bulawayo Select take lessons from Old Hararians defeat

BULAWAYO Select might have kicked off their Super Six season with a defeat at the hands of old foes Old Hararians at Hartsfield rugby grounds on Saturday but their coach was impressed by the performance of his boys.

Head coach, Ruben Kumpasa believes Bulawayo Select played good rugby even though they lost 25-5 against the boys from Harare.

Kumpasa believes the mistakes that his team made cost them the game.

“I’m proud of the boys, they played good rugby even though they made mistakes, we got to their half and we failed to turn the pressure into points and when we made the mistakes we got punished,” Kumpasa said.

He went on to praise Old Hararians for playing good rugby and showing determination and hunger to win the game.

“They came out, they were a better team because they wanted to win more than we did, so we learnt something from it.

“It’s always been a tough one with Old Hararians, you don’t know what to expect from them, they don’t play a game that you will say next time when you play against them, they will play the same game so we learn something every day when we play against the best,” said Kumpasa.

Bulawayo Rugby Board Chairman Craig Change said he is happy to have hosted the games even though the team from the city lost.

“Though we lost we are happy that at least there was some rugby activity and the mood was good, hoping to win next time, but we are extremely happy to have hosted our guys and we hope to build more of these tournaments going forward,” said Change.

The Bulawayo Select team will travel to Mutare next weekend for their second game of the Super Six and Kumpasa hopes they will play a better game.
