THE City of Bulawayo will on Friday commission newly installed pumps and associated accessories at the Umzingwane Pump Station in a move expected to enhance the city’s water conveyance capacity and improve service delivery.

In a communication to media houses, the local authority’s Corporate Communications Officer, Miss Bongiwe Ngwenya, said the commissioning ceremony would be held at the Umzingwane Pump Station on June 19.

“Please be advised the commissioning of Umzingwane Pumps and Associated Accessories at the Umzingwane Pump Station will be held on Friday, 19 June 2026 at 11:00 hours at the Umzingwane Pump Station,” said Miss Ngwenya.

The commissioning forms part of ongoing efforts by the local authority to strengthen critical water infrastructure and improve the efficiency of the city’s water supply system.

The installation of new pumps and related equipment is expected to enhance the movement of raw water through the supply network, a critical component in ensuring reliable water delivery to residents, businesses and industries.

Bulawayo has over the years invested in the rehabilitation and upgrading of key water infrastructure as part of wider efforts to address recurring water challenges and improve the resilience of the city’s supply system.

The commissioning ceremony is expected to attract stakeholders from Government, the local authority, the water sector and other development partners involved in infrastructure development.

Further details on the scope of the project and its anticipated benefits to the city’s water supply network are expected to be outlined during the official commissioning ceremony.
