AS the last chill of winter begins to fade, Bulawayo is preparing to burst back to life with a packed calendar of entertainment, culture and lifestyle events that signal the arrival of the city’s busiest social season.
From music festivals and community markets to burnouts, picnics and cultural celebrations, August is set to usher in the unofficial start of spring, offering residents and visitors countless reasons to step outdoors and experience the vibrant spirit of the City of Kings and Queens.
The month opens on August 1 with the 10UP Market, a celebration of Zimbabwe’s emerging entrepreneurs, creatives and innovators. The market will bring together local brands, artistes, food vendors and artisans, complemented by live music, art exhibitions and family-friendly activities.
House music enthusiasts will have their moment on August 9 at The Secret Garden, an outdoor music experience expected to draw revellers from across the country. The festival will feature international acts Funky QLa, Robotic OFC and Kitchen Mess alongside some of Zimbabwe’s finest DJs, promising an energetic celebration of electronic music.
Motorsport fans will then take centre stage on August 10 when the ZKS Heroes Burnouts revs into action at ZKS Spinners Arena. The event will combine roaring engines, tyre-smoking burnout displays and live DJ performances, creating an adrenaline-fuelled spectacle for both car lovers and entertainment seekers.
On August 15, the Phinifa Festival will return for its second edition. The festival celebrates Zimbabwean heritage while providing a platform for women to showcase their businesses, talents and creativity through fashion, food, entrepreneurship and live entertainment.
For those seeking a more laid-back experience, Picnic & Chill on August 22 promises a relaxed day outdoors featuring games, paint-and-sip sessions, shopping stalls, food vendors and live performances.
The month will end on a high note with the One Giant Picnic Bulawayo on August 30. Having gained popularity in other cities, the lifestyle event is making its debut in Bulawayo, bringing together music lovers, food enthusiasts, content creators and socialites for an afternoon of networking, entertainment and outdoor fun.
August is only the beginning of what promises to be an exciting spring season. September will usher in the much-anticipated Intwasa Arts Festival koBulawayo, along with more concerts, exhibitions, sporting events and family entertainment that traditionally define the city’s festive calendar.
With organisers continuing to unveil new events almost weekly, Bulawayo’s entertainment scene is showing strong signs of regaining its momentum. As warmer weather returns, the city is poised to once again become a hive of activity, offering something for every age and interest.
