THE 440-kilometre Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road is expected to be fully trafficable by July or August next year, with funding for the ongoing rehabilitation and upgrading project having been secured.

Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona gave the assurance during a tour of the highway today, accompanied by Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Richard Moyo.

Minister Mhona said the eight contractors working on the project were expected to have completed at least 50 percent of their allocated sections by the end of this year.

Each contractor has been allocated approximately 50 kilometres of the highway, in a strategy adopted by Government to accelerate rehabilitation and upgrading works.

“I have challenged the contractors to ensure that the project is completed by July or August next year, by which time we should have a fully trafficable 440-kilometre stretch,” said Minister Mhona.

He said the works also included the construction and rehabilitation of bridges along the highway, which are expected to improve accessibility and enhance the safety of motorists.
