BULAWAYO teams are gearing up for a stronger showing at the next National Volleyball League (NVL) round, set for August 16–17 in Gweru.

Lycans (women) and Chimoio (men and women) will represent the city, hoping to improve on recent results from the Harare leg of the league, where both sides struggled.

Chimoio’s men lost 3-0 to Black Mambas and 3-1 to Chapungu. The Lycans went down 3-0 in both their matches against UZ Wolves and Harare City. As it stands, Lycans sit second from bottom with no wins this season, while Chimoio’s men are in ninth with two victories so far.

Despite the tough outings, Bulawayo Volleyball Association chairman Munyaradzi Chigudu remains optimistic.

“Though Bulawayo teams struggled in the last round, they have managed to collect valuable points, they are giving good competition to big teams,” he said. “We are looking forward to collecting maximum points and getting better positions on the log.”

Chigudu said teams have ramped up training ahead of the Gweru fixtures.

Chimoio’s men open against CUT, who are two places ahead of them on the table.

In the men’s division, UZ Wolves lead the standings with 17 points and remain unbeaten.

On the women’s side, Black Mambas top the table with 18 points from six straight wins, including a 3-0 sweep over Lycans in the last round.
