Bulawayo Ward 1 councillor suspended

Bulawayo Ward 1 councillor Josiah Mutangi has been suspended with immediate effect after Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe cited allegations of fraud, gross misconduct and violations of the law.

Mutangi is accused of soliciting and accepting money from vendors while allegedly promising them vending bays, actions the ministry says resulted in 14 counts of fraud and damaged the reputation of the local authority.

The councillor has been given seven days to respond to the allegations, which could be referred to an independent tribunal for further investigation.
