THREE of Bulawayo’s most celebrated female creatives, Tariro neGitare, Nobuntu, and Lady “NaTiye” Tshawe, are set to headline the inaugural Magitare Evening of the Arts at Reps Theatre on March 28. The dual-show celebration blends music, theatre, and storytelling to highlight the depth, resilience, and innovation of women in Zimbabwe’s creative sector.

The showcase will feature Tariro Chaniwa and her soulful acoustic project, Tariro neGitare, the internationally acclaimed all-female a cappella ensemble Nobuntu, and the versatile theatrical talent of Lady “NaTiye” Tshawe. Together, they promise a multi-layered experience where music and theatre intersect to celebrate women’s artistry and collaborative spirit.

For years, Magitare has provided an intimate platform for acoustic music and storytelling. This edition, however, deliberately spotlights female performers, affirming their growing influence in Zimbabwe’s creative economy.
“This is more than just a concert. We need to create our own spaces as women and showcase the excellence that is already apparent. This is a statement of our contribution to the creative economy and a celebration of the spaces we are building for ourselves,” said Tariro.

The March event marks the launch of an annual Magitare Evening of the Arts, strategically positioned after Creative Economy Week and International Women’s Day, providing a cultural finale to Women’s Month.

Nobuntu continues to redefine imbube and isicathamiya, genres historically dominated by men, proving that world-class artistry can thrive outside Harare. Lady Tshawe, a dynamic performer in acting, music, and performance art, brings theatrical depth, having previously appeared on stages beyond Zimbabwe, including South Africa’s Dr Hokaspokas Show.
