Bulawayo’s comedic force Mbongeni Ignatius is riding a wave of anticipation as he prepares to make his debut appearance at Zimbabwe’s premier urban culture gathering, the Shoko Festival, on September 25.

Ignatius is slated to perform on the coveted stage of the festival’s flagship event, the Shoko Comedy Night, a significant milestone in his growing career.

This year holds extra weight as Shoko Festival celebrates its 15th anniversary under the theme “TheLegacyXV”, honouring a decade and a half as the nation’s longest-running festival dedicated to youth culture, urban music, and free expression.

Speaking ahead of his journey to Harare, Ignatius radiated excitement and appreciation for the opportunity.
“I’m feeling excited, over the moon. Considering it’s such a big platform, I don’t take it lightly. What I’m looking forward to most is making my mark on the big stage. I believe, with full confidence, that my comic style and delivery, unique and full of energy, will resonate. Without a doubt, I know people will love and enjoy it,” he shared.

This booking follows a standout year for the Bulawayo funnyman. He earned recognition as a 2024 National Arts Merit Awards Outstanding Stand-Up Comedian nominee, cementing his place among the country’s top comedic talents.

Earlier this year, he further demonstrated his prowess by staging his one-man show, “Let It Out”, at the Bulawayo Theatre.

Performing at Shoko Comedy Night places Ignatius alongside an elite comedic company. The event will be headlined by the internationally acclaimed Zimbabwean comedian King Kandoro, a major draw card. Sharing this platform offers Ignatius unparalleled exposure to a national audience and the festival’s diverse, culture-savvy attendees. – Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
