THE Bulilima Mangwe District Heroes Acre is being renovated in preparation for this year’s Heroes Day Celebrations.
Speaking at a preparatory meeting held last Wednesday Bulilima District Administrator Mrs Ethel Moyo said efforts were under way to spruce up the district’s shrine. The heroes acre was built to service the districts of Bulilima and Mangwe and Plumtree Town.

“We have to spruce up the heroes acre so that it can meet the standard of shrines in other districts. Our target is that in the near future we should have tombstones erected on all graves.

“At the moment we have four tombstones that have been erected but as time goes on and as contributions come in we will put up more tombstones,” said Mrs Moyo.

She urged various stakeholders to make contributions towards the project.

Bulilima Rural District Council chairperson Councillor Morgen Ndebele said committees had been put in place to facilitate the renovations as well as other preparations.

“We have started preparing for the Heroes Day commemorations. We have just held the first meeting and from there committees that have been selected will sit down and work on their areas of expertise.

“This time we are also focusing on improving the state of the heroes acre. The Department of Public Works is responsible for the renovations,” he said.
