THE wife of a Bulawayo police officer who allegedly shot herself on Saturday using her husband’s service gun during a domestic dispute has died at Mpilo Central Hospital. National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba yesterday said police have launched an investigation into the matter.

Marble Chiture, 27, wife to Superintendent Crissen Masuka – the officer commanding crime in Bulawayo, not Donnington Police Station as earlier reported, died on Sunday night due to injuries sustained after allegedly shooting herself. Snr Asst Com Charamba said: “Police are conducting comprehensive inquiries into the tragic incident with a view to establish what transpired on the particular day.”

She said it was unfortunate that a life was lost following the domestic dispute. “The Zimbabwe Republic police is saddened by the death of Marble Chiture, 27, on 18 October 2015 in Bulawayo in a shooting incident after a domestic dispute with Masuka Crissen of Bulawayo Central District Headquarters,” she said.

Snr Asst Comm Charamba urged members of the public to seek professional help to resolve disputes. “We urge couples or partners to resolve disputes through dialogue and seek counselling through the assistance of relatives, friends and social experts,” said the police spokesperson.

A police source told The Chronicle Supt Masuka is likely to face disciplinary action for failing to secure his gun. “He is a high ranking official in the province and he might be charged for failing to secure his service weapon,” said the source. Chituri is reported to have shot herself following an undisclosed marital dispute.

She is said to have grabbed her husband’s service weapon, locked him in their bedroom before shooting herself. Supt Masuka allegedly broke out of the bedroom but failed to stop her from shooting herself.
