Burial of actress January set for tomorrow

THE family of veteran actress Stella January yesterday said the thespian will be buried tomorrow at Glen Forest Cemetery in Harare.

January died on Wednesday night after suffering from cancer. She was 55.

Mourners are gathered at  house number 23, Nzou Street, in Mufakose, Harare.

January was popular for her roles in “Yellow Card”, “Mombe Dzemashanga,” “Gringo the Troublemaker”, “Chapungu’, “Death and other Complications”, “Vhunze”, “Tangled”and several other productions.

January also featured in Joe Njagu’s award winning production, “Mirage”, which features Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana, Eunice Tava, Charmaine Mujeri and Chipo Bizure. The movie was nominated for the Africa Movie Academy Award last year.

Family member Prisca January said January died at the family home in Mufakose.

“She suffered from cancer for a long time. She lost her child aged 25 in 2010,” she said.

 “January’s body will lie in state in Mufakose today, before being taken to Theatre in the Park to allow her fans to pay their last respects. The body will later proceed to Glen Forest Cemetery for burial in the afternoon,” she said.
