OUAGADOUGOU.- Burkina Faso’s President-elect Roch Marc Christian Kabore has said he will change the Constitution to usher in the Fifth Republic. Kabore, who was addressing the media on Thursday in Ouagadougou, said the new Constitution will separate power and ensure the president does not reign over all public institutions in the country.

Employment, education, health, social justice and reconciliation will be some of the key priorities of the new regime.

However, in the legislative elections that equally took place on Sunday, the new president’s party did not win an absolute majority and it is therefore supposed to enter into an alliance with other parties to form a government.

According to provisional results announced Wednesday by the National Independent Electoral Commission, Kabore’s People’s Movement for Progress (MPP) won 55 seats out of 127 parliamentary seats.

Union for Progress and Change (UPC) of Zephirin Diabre came second with 33 seats, while the former ruling party, Congress for Democracy and Progress (CDP) which did not have a presidential candidate after it was barred from presenting one by the court, came third with 18 seats.

The Union for Renaissance/Sankarist Party won only five parliamentary seats.- Xinhua.
