A 46-year-old man from Burnside, Bulawayo, is recovering from severe injuries after a vicious assault by two men on Sunday night.

According to Bulawayo police spokesperson Abednico Ncube, the victim was lured to a local sports bar in Burnside by Lameck Mguni (32) of Douglasdale, Bulawayo, and his unknown accomplice.

“The complainant was approached by the two accused persons, who asked him to accompany them to Starling Drive to collect some women,” Ncube said.

However, when they were a few metres from the bar, one of the accused persons picked up an iron bar from the bush and assaulted the complainant all over the body.

The attackers allegedly used an okapi knife to stab the victim several times on the head, leaving him with a swollen head, deep cuts, a cut nose, and bruises on his hands and legs.

“The accused persons then disappeared into the bush, leaving the complainant on the ground, bleeding,” Ncube added.

The victim managed to seek help, and a police report was filed.

However, the perpetrators remain at large.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
