A BUS driver has appeared in court for running over and killing a passenger who was attempting to board a bus.

Rabson Takawira, 55, employed by Joma Bus Service, pleaded guilty to culpable homicide before Gweru magistrate Musaiona Shotgame.

He was remanded out of custody to today for sentencing.

The court heard how Takawira ran over Gift Burawa at Charandura Business Centre in Chirumanzu.

Prosecuting, Bernard Nyoni told the court that on August 8, 2013, at around 6PM, Takawira was driving a Joma bus from Gweru to Charandura.

Burawa, he said, was left behind by the bus when he was buying beer.

“Burawa ran after the bus, got hold of the door and tried to get into the moving vehicle,” said Nyoni.

The court heard that Burawa fell under the bus and it ran over him.

“Burawa died on the spot and his body was taken to St Theresa Hospital mortuary,” said Nyoni.
