Bus runs over, kills vendor at Egodini

A vendor at Egodini bus terminus in Bulawayo was run over and killed by a bus when he tripped and fell while disembarking from the moving bus.

The incident occured on Wednesday and according to witnesses, the vendor identified only as Mhlengisi, tried to disembark from the Kezi bound bus which was leaving the terminus. He then tripped and fell before he was crushed by the wheels.

“He tried to jump off the moving bus but unfortunately he fell and the bus ran over him. People screamed to alert the driver who immediately stopped but it was too late. An ambulance was called and the crew certified him dead,” said Mr Thulani Ziriri, a fellow vendor.

Bulawayo police spokesperson, Inspector Precious Simango confirmed the accident.

“We are investigating an accident involving a public service vehicle and a vendor which happened at Egodini terminus on Wednesday,” she said.

Insp Simango who said the body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals mortuary, said police were yet to identify the deceased.

She appealed to members of the public who might have information that could assist to identify the deceased to visit their nearest police station. — @PrinceNkosy102
