THE Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE) on Thursday commenced its 4th International Science Education and Technology Conference here in Victoria Falls, attracting educators, researchers, and industry experts from across the globe.

Running under the theme: “Redefining Science Education and Technology for Innovation, Industrialisation and Global Commerce,” the three-day conference aims to foster dialogue on transforming education systems to meet future technological and economic demands.

The event coincides with BUSE’s Silver Jubilee celebrations, marking 25 years since the institution attained full university status in 2000.

Reflecting on this milestone, Vice Chancellor Professor Eddie Mwenje highlighted the university’s foundational vision.

“Twenty-nine years ago, a bold vision was born from necessity. Zimbabwe faced a critical shortage of qualified science educators. Today, BUSE stands as a comprehensive institution, a beacon of scientific education in the region,” he said.

Prof Mwenje emphasised the conference’s role in shaping national and regional educational agendas, stating that universities must be engines of practical solutions and economic transformation.

The conference commenced today with a series of high-level presentations and panel discussions lined up.
Key highlights include a keynote address by Prof Letina Jeranyama from Clark University, USA, on redefining science and technology education.

Lead papers will focus on sustainable development, curriculum innovation, and transformational leadership in education.

Panel discussions will also explore critical issues such as collaboration between academia and industry, artificial intelligence in education, and the integration of indigenous knowledge systems.

Breakaway sessions will delve into specialised sub-themes including equity in STEM education, quality management, and future curriculum design.

The conference also showcases BUSE’s innovations aligned with Zimbabwe’s Heritage-Based Education 5.0 model, such as the “Chiringa” monitoring application and locally produced Masawu juice.

As BUSE celebrates 25 years of excellence, this conference reinforces its commitment to producing graduates and innovations that contribute to national development and global competitiveness.
