ENTUMBANE turned into a battlefield when a trio of thugs armed with a machete, axe and iron bar pounced on a lone man near a sewer pump, beating him and looting his belongings in a chilling robbery straight out of a horror flick!
Tafadzwa Chimusaru (32) and Leeroy Sibanda (19) have been dragged before the Western Commonage Regional Court, facing armed robbery charges after the violent ambush. Their third accomplice is still on the run.
Appearing before Magistrate Sibongile Marondedze, the two suspects were remanded in custody to 4 June 2025 as the hunt continues for their partner in crime.
According to State Prosecutor Christina Manyika, the brutal robbery happened on 24 April around 6PM, near the railway line between City Council offices and a sewer pump, behind Ntabeni Primary School.
The victim, Mr Busani Sibanda, never saw it coming.
He was walking alone when the masked men sprang out from the bush, brandishing weapons and demanding everything he had.
“One hacked him with a machete on the right wrist,” said Manyika.
“Another smashed his back and head with an axe, then again on the arm. It was savage.”
Bleeding and dazed, Mr Sibanda was stripped of his Itel cellphone, a white jacket, black cap and All-Star sneakers, all valued at US$64. To add insult to injury, none of it has been recovered.
The attackers vanished into the twilight, leaving the victim battered and bruised, but alive to tell the tale.
A police source told B-Metro the gang is believed to have been targeting pedestrians near that bushy railway stretch, turning it into a no-go zone after dark.
