Norway-based songstress and former Ilanga lead vocalist Busi Ncube paid tribute to the late iconic Chiwoniso Maraire at her show over the weekend at The Book Café.
In an electric show that was graced by a diversified audience, Ncube performed a number of songs in Chiwoniso’s honour.“I did this song with my sister Chiwoniso Maraire. It is unfortunate that I did not make it to her memorial,” she said before bursting into the song “Ndipeiwo Simba”.

She took it further by performing more of Maraire’s songs much to the delight of music lovers, who were on their feet for the better part of the show.

So impressive was her act that she took her fans down memory lane with yesteryear hit songs.

Together with her a band that she had assembled two days prior to the show, Busi’s two-hour show was a memorable one for many a music fanatic.

Amongst the band members was Dudu Manhenga’s husband and drummer Blessing Muparutsa.

They belted songs like “Siyalonda”, “True Love” and “Mugara Ndega”, among others.

The music teacher took time to exhibit her skills on the tambourine, mbira and guitar, while dancing energetically too.

Busi is a musician who has remarkably stayed afloat in the show business even after leaving Ilanga years ago.

While other members of that group, namely Andy Brown, Don Gumbo, have passed on the musician vowed to keep the Ilanga music legacy alive.

She is on record as saying that she comes to her home country once in a while to find inspiration for her music.

“I come back to my roots every year because I want to stick to who I am.  I believe that while there is a lot to learn from Norway, Norway has a lot to learn from me as well. Zimbabwean music is rich and that is why it is now found all over the world,” she said.
