MASVINGO Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Ezra Chadzamira has called for collaboration between the business community and the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (Zimstat) in the success of the 2025 Economic Census Mapping and Listing exercise being conducted countrywide.

In a speech read on his behalf by Masvingo provincial director of economic affairs and investments, Mr Clever Chingwara during a recent sensitisation workshop at a local hotel, Minister Chadzamira said the business community has a crucial role to play in the Zimstat exercise.

“As we look forward to the country’s undertaking an economic census, l call upon the business community to cooperate with Zimstat staff as they will be collecting the data. Your contributions are essential in painting a complete picture of our economic activities,” he said.

“I urge business representatives to take full advantage of this workshop and gain a clear understanding of the economic census.”

The economic census is aimed at providing comprehensive baseline statistics on the size and structure of the economy.

Minister Chadzamira said the census paves the way for prosperity through informed decision-making and targeted policies thereby maximizing Masvingo’s potential.

“The 2025 Economic census is a landmark undertaking that will provide us with a comprehensive picture of our provincial and national economic landscape. This data is invaluable for informed decision-making and policy-making as well,” he said

“As a province, we are aware of the need for accurate and up-to-date economic data as this information will empower us to develop targeted policies that foster economic growth and job creation in the province, allocating resources effectively to support key industries and sectors, as well as identifying areas for investment that will unlock our province’s full potential.”

Speaking during the same event, Zimstat acting director general, Mr Aluwisio Mukavhi said the census offers valuable insight into the economy in the drive to national development.

“The statistics are key for evidence-based decision making as well as policy planning in addition to compilation of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The information from the census will provide baseline statistical information for crafting the National Development Strategy 2 running from 2026-2030,” he said.

Zimstat cartography manager, Mrs Nyaradzai Ngonyamo said the 2025 Economic census will cover micro, macro, small, medium and large enterprises. She said Zimstat staff will be visiting all industrial areas including vegetable markets and home industries across all seven districts in the province.

The census is running under the theme “counting every business, shaping economic policies”.
