Businesses warned against selling import licences

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has issued a stern warning to businesses reselling import licenses.

In a statement, the Ministry said some businesspeople have been obtaining import licences officially from the Government and then reselling them for US$100. 

The ministry made it clear that it has “zero tolerance towards corruption” and expects the business community to operate with integrity.

“All importers are hereby urged to observe proper procedures for obtaining import licences,” said the statement. 

The ministry clarified that import licenses are obtained officially online through their e-platform, and there is no need to buy them from third parties. 

Furthermore, the ministry advised that prior approval of licensing is the norm for all imports, urging all importers to utilise their licenses and ensure integrity in the process.
