IN a heart-warming gesture this holiday season, local businessman, Samy Samukunze Nyahokwe, the owner of Nyahokwe Mall, has gifted the residents of Harare a new recreational space in the bustling Central Business District.
Nyahokwe, 85, expressed his and his family’s deep commitment to giving back to the community that has supported them over the years.
“I’ve been working in Harare since 1966 and I’ve seen the transformation of this city first hand,” he said.
“From changes in building structures to new street names, it’s been a remarkable journey.”
To ensure the sustainability of his business, Nyahokwe involved his children, in-laws and grandchildren in building generational wealth.
As part of their mission to give back to the community, they constructed a beautiful water fountain along First Street and installed wooden benches for the community to relax and enjoy Harare’s sunshine.

In addition to the fountain, Nyahokwe acquired and refurbished a building along George Silundika Avenue, renaming it Nyahokwe Mall.
This new establishment features space for various entrepreneurs, providing them with affordable rentals to help them thrive.
“Beyond creating a business, we aim to empower our people,” he said.
Operating a jewellery shop that specialises in gold wedding rings and ornaments, Nyahokwe’s entrepreneurial spirit is matched only by his dedication to his roots.
At his village home in Nyanga, he has created facilities provide clean water, a grinding mill, and accommodation for visitors.
His state-of-the-art residence has attracted both local and foreign tourists, seeking hospitality in the beautiful countryside.

Born on March 4, 1940, Nyahokwe is a proud father of eight – three sons and five daughters -and a grandfather to 47 grandchildren.
Yet, at 85, he remains inspired to expand his business ventures.
“I’m not ready to retire,” he said. “I still have the stamina and determination to achieve even greater things.”
This Christmas, Nyahokwe has a message for all Zimbabweans:
“Life is what you make it. Be serious about whatever you do and give it your all.”
