Businessman and philanthropist Exevia “Wezhaz” Maoneke has assisted upcoming Afro-jazz artist Tawanda Chari, better known as WaChari, to release his debut album “Bumharutsva”.
The 10-track album will be unveiled at Ora in Helensvale in Borrowdale tonight.
The businessman’s intervention came when the young musician sought assistance for the project.
Maoneke who is also Zimbabwe Business and Arts Hub (Zibah) vice Chairperson said he felt compelled to make the album launch a success.
“WaChari is a very talented and passionate artist. I have seen him perform at my bar in Warren Park and the young man is talented. I have realised his passion and we need to assist such,” he said.
The album has songs “African girl”, “Kuziva Mbuya”, “Mashoko”, “Mwana Wemusango” the title track, “Ndapotsa Nda”, “Ndafunga Kare[Rubie]”, “Kuremara Kwemoyo”, “Mhere” and “Andina Inzwi”.
Wachari said most of the songs on the album address several issues affecting the society.
“Bumharutsva is a Shona word for the first rains, so to me it’s the mark to the beginning of a new season in my career and my life.
‘‘I believe the time is now for me to define my space in the local industry and I am happy with the support from people like Wezhaz,” he said.
The talented vocalist and guitarist also revealed that besides other celebrated musicians, life inspired him.
He performs with his band Shamwari Dzerwendo and is also part of Mazwi, a band with traditional and Afro-jazz fusions.
