ARMED robbers pounced on a Chipinge businessman in the dead of night and got away with $17 000, a laptop and mobile phones.

Police confirmed the incident which occurred last week.

The robbers broke into Samuel Maadza’s house in Muzondakaya Village under Chief Musikavanhu.

They drove the businessman and his wife to the family shop where they looted cash and goods.

Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa said Maadza’s second wife, Joyce Bhemhe (32), alerted her husband of  intruders in the house.

The robbers were wearing masks and armed with pistols and hammers.

“The robbers ordered Maadza and his wife to lie down. They assaulted them. Maadza was stabbed him with an unknown sharp object. The wife was assaulted with a hammer until she told the robbers where they kept their money,” he said.

The robbers forced Maadza, his wife and children into their car and headed for the family shop.

“As they were leaving Maadza managed to jump out of the car and rushed to Middle Sabi Police Station where he made a report,” said Insp Kakohwa.

He said when the robbers realised that Maadza had escaped, they left his children but still proceeded to the shop with Bhemhe.

At the shop was Maadza’s first wife, Shamiso Mahleza (47). There, the robbers took a suitcase containing RTGS$17 000, a laptop and three mobile phones.

Nothing has been recovered.
