BUSINESSMAN TAKES US$34k COSTS CASE TO LAW SOCIETY

H-Metro Reporter

A CHINESE businessman has written to the Law Society of Zimbabwe complaining over US$34 000, in costs, which were raised by a lawyer in a case which was heard at the High Court.

Jiane He, of Augustus Close Holdings (Pvt) Ltd, has filed a complaint against lawyer Christos Venturas.

He said the provisional order, which was granted by Justice Wamambo, never awarded costs to Christos Venturas’ clients.

“Paragraph 3, under the terms of the final order sought, is what provided for payment of costs.

“However, payment of such costs was deferred to a future event.”

Augustus Holdings said a final order, which will then determine if they have to pay the costs in the case, has not yet been made.

“You have engaged in conduct that is likely to diminish public confidence in the legal profession and or the administration of justice and or to bring the legal profession into disrepute.

“To date, no final order has been made in those terms.

“The terms of the interim relief granted never provided for payment of costs.

“I implore upon your good office to investigate Mr Christos Venturas for his conduct.”
