With the year coming to an end and the festive season approaching, a lot of artistes have busy schedules, booked either locally, regionally or internationally.
A survey conducted by The Herald Arts revealed that from today until Sunday there are a lot of events happening, with revellers spoilt for choice.
Below is a weekend guide on what is taking place in the country:
Manicaland Province roars to life with “Save Beach Jamboree”
Organisers of the Save Beach Bash Tourism Jamboree have lined up top local artistes who are expected to serenade revellers from Manicaland Province.
The Jamboree will be hosted tomorrow at Birchenough Bridge in a bid to continue promoting tourism in the eastern region and attract both local and international visitors to the area.
On the line-up include Mokoomba, Suluman Chimbetu, Dorcas Moyo, Romeo Gasa, Jah Signal, Leonard Zhakata, Sandra Ndebele, DT Bio Mudimba, Shinsoman, Somandla Ndebele, Killer T, Mark Ngwazi, Enzo Ishall, Shantel Sithole and Jah Master, who will be part of the pungwe event.
The event is being held courtesy of the Office of the President and Cabinet, ZimBho, and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority.
There will also be food stalls and vendors showcasing local cuisine and products, providing a taste of Zimbabwean culture.
The event promises to be a memorable day of entertainment, cultural experiences, with sports like golf at the Leopard Rock Hotel course, beach volleyball, cricket, football, cycling and tug-of-war.
The message from the organisers is simple: pack your bags, grab your sunscreen and head to Birchenough Bridge for a day of fun in the sun on Saturday.
All set for Spirit of Praise concert tonight
The much-publicised gospel concert dubbed Spirit of Praise — Nine — Zimbabwe Tour is on tonight with organisers confirming that the participating musicians are jetting in this morning ahead of the show.
The event will be held at Hippodrome, Braeside, Harare, and will see multi-award-winning gospel sensation Everton Mlalazi sharing the stage with South African giants Benjamin Dube, Ayanda Ntanzi, Dumi Mkokstad, Canaan Nyathi, Takie Ndou, Mmatema and many others.
Zimbabwe representative Mlalazi said he was ready to perform.
“The event promises to be an amazing night of worship and I encourage people to come and witness the magnificent concert. The stage is set already. Today morning, we will be welcoming the first batch of guests,” he said.
Theatre in the Park to host Steve Makoni’s Handiende Tour
Theatre in the Park will host Steve Makoni tonight as part of his “Handiende In Concert Tour 2023” which began in January in Mutare.
The concert comes at no better time than coinciding with the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence as the title “Handiende” speaks to all genders against exploitation.
Organisers have said that also to be featured at the show is Trevor Nhapi.
Handiende is arguably one of the most successful songs by Steve Makoni and since its release in 1993 the song has stood the test of time in the last 30 years.
The track won Best Selling Single Award in 1994 at the Zimbabwe Music Awards, while Leonard Zhakata’s Maruva Enyika won Best Selling Album for that year.
Apparently, Handiende was Steve Makoni’s first Shona single since he started recording music.
Makoni said he was prepared for tonight.
“So far I am in the process of compiling all the greatest songs that I know fans would want to hear. Handiende was and still is a great song to date and it has been amazing 30 years,” he said.
He explained why the tour is particularly named after the song: “Handiende.”
“Well, the song is based on a true story. Long back when I was still in Kwekwe we wanted to launch a project called Was My Child together with Oliver Mtukudzi,” he said.
“So, at the time, there was this foreign guy of Greek nationality. Most people wanted his services, but would not want to pay him knowing that he was a foreigner.
“But this guy grew up in Zimbabwe and he was not leaving the country. He would insist that he was not going anywhere! That is where I got the idea, but then the song looks at domestic issues that exploiting each other in one way or the other is bad.”
Rhumba Night with Diamond Musica at Food Nest Restaurant
Rhumba fans are in for a treat tonight as Congolese rhumba musician Pitshou Lumiere will perform at Food Nest Restaurant Longchen Plaza for the Rhumba Night Live show.
The event, which has been described as “for the mature and classic fan audience,” will see Diamond Musica rekindling their romance with rhumba fans.
Simon Chimbetu Musical Festival
The Orchestra Dendera Kings and Panjap Motors are hosting the Simon Chimbetu Music Festival tomorrow at Magadi, Chegutu, which will see several musicians from the Chimbetu family uniting.
The festival will see Sulumani, Allan, Saiwe, Tryson and Douglas headlining the show as they will be supported by Enzo Ishall, Peter Moyo, Chipo Muchengwa, Terry Gee and Andy Muridzo among others. It is a family show.
